The act of creation through its persistence goes through the entire spectrum of emotions. The small fleeting moments of happiness that can arise convince me that what l am doing is the greatest painting that has ever been created. But reality soon returns and then it is a race against time for the next fix

The Only One
Thomas Kuss
Thomas Kuss is a Chinese-Vanuatuan-German-Australian painter, practising on Gadigal land in Tempe, Sydney. Kuss’ paintings weave through his complex legacy of multigenerational and multiracial narratives. Kuss’ paintings serve as fluid and evolving documents as he records the act of negotiating his transposable ethnic identities, all while acknowledging the inherent impossibility of capturing an objective truth and the corrosive effects of time and living memory.

Manly Locals
Manly locals Frank, Emily and little Robert never had a pleasant stroll down The Corso. Frank of German decent had to conceal his origins and unofficial changed his surname. Emily from Vanuatu came to Australia when she was 5 to a life of discrimination. It seemed only fitting these two came together having similar sensibilities. Then little Robert came along and had to find his own way growing up in the most cultural un-diverse suburb of Sydney.
The Only One
When life changes overnight, ones shift in responsibilities can lead to action or rejection. But the guilt never goes away.
